Currently accepting clients in New York State for teletherapy and in-person in NYC! We work with most major insurance companies--call/email us to find out if our services are covered. Kip Therapy is therapy for every identity. Together, we’ll define and work on the things that make it difficult to find your place in the world—like being queer, processing trauma, navigating your most important relationships, entering into adulthood and careers, or struggling with self-esteem. Kip was originally founded to fill a gap in mental health care for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Many members of the Kip team have lived experiences as LGBTQ+ people, and it remains one of the primary reasons clients work with us. Through a LGBTQ+ affirming lens, our therapists focus on what makes you unique and how your experiences--your history, your identity, your culture--shape who you are and what you may be struggling with. Kip is a trailblazer in the mental health industry, serving clients in New York State. Since 2013, we’ve been rethinking and redesigning therapy for the 21st century. Our work is shaped by three guiding principles: Include-We provide care for individuals who have been excluded from traditional therapy, particularly members of the LGBTQ+ community. Invest-We offer training and support for emerging therapists to improve quality of care and unlock new opportunities for diverse clinicians. Innovate-We boldly push the field of psychotherapy forward, and evolve our own approach based on the latest best practices.

Welcome. If you’re here, I imagine you may be feeling stuck or uncertain about how to move forward in your life. I would like to help you take the next steps. In our work together, we will find ways for you to more meaningfully connect with yourself and with those who are important to you. This work may include facing something from your past, gaining new awareness of repetitive cycles of behavior, navigating a difficult life transition, or the opportunity to freely discover and playfully explore your own subjectivity and imagination. I also work with couples to improve their communication by identifying the ways in which they get stuck trying to resolve conflict, while also finding ways to achieve greater emotional intimacy. My areas of focus include: depression (particularly with men), anxiety, life transitions, identity development, artistic stress, bereavement, trauma, and interpersonal difficulties. My approach is collaborative, active, warm, and transparent. Having worked as an actor previously, I am also particularly aware of the impact of the body on our wellbeing, the nuances of the creative process, and of the various (and often contradictory) roles we play in our relationships. Integrating this perspective in my practice has benefited my work with creatives and non-creatives alike. My practice is primarily psychodynamic; I begin with the assumption that people develop certain patterns of interacting with others in childhood, and that these patterns are repeated throughout life. I use the therapeutic relationship in order to help clarify these conscious and unconscious patterns of relating. If you think we may be a good fit together, please reach out to schedule a free phone consultation. I can be reached at dralexseife@gmail.com

We offer affirming psychotherapy and sex therapy for individuals, couples, multiple-partner relationships, and poly and leather families. We are experts in alternative sexualities, specializing in working with adults in the kink/BDSM, polyamorous/non-monogamous, trans/gender-nonconforming/non-binary, LGBQIA+, and sex work communities. We work with those who live openly and out; and those who have more conservative and private lifestyles. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including holistic, person-centered, collaborative, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed, IFS, DBT, and EMDR. We welcome people of every ability, age, gender, national origin, race/ethnicity, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation, and we cultivate space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. People seek therapy for many reasons, including: a deeper understanding of identity or sexuality; difficulty adjusting to relationship difficulties or traumatic experiences; anxiety and/or depression; sexual functioning issues; compulsive thoughts or behavior; and/or changes in relationship structure or power dynamic. Most people decide to work with my practice because of my specialized training and experience, or because they feel more comfortable speaking to a therapist with first-hand knowledge of alternative identities and lifestyles.

College and graduate school can be exciting, but they can also feel overwhelming. You may be struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood, loneliness, relationship challenges, questions about your identity, or the pressure to keep up academically while managing everything else in your life. For some students, adjusting to life away from home, navigating independence, or recovering from difficult experiences such as trauma or past hardships can make this time especially challenging. I'm Kate Conway, a Mental Health Counselor Fellow (MHC-F) at Modern Talk, working under the clinical supervision of our licensed directors. Working with college students and young adults is at the heart of what I do — I have a deep understanding of the unique pressures this stage of life brings, and I know how much courage it takes to ask for support when you're in the middle of it. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic and relational therapy — I work with you to understand the patterns, experiences, and relationships shaping how you think, feel, and move through the world, while drawing on practical, skills-based tools when the work calls for it. Whether you're looking for support during a difficult period, trying to better understand yourself, or hoping to build healthier coping skills and relationships, I'm here. I offer a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where you can talk openly, gain insight, and develop the tools to navigate this chapter with greater confidence and resilience.

College is a time of enormous adjustments, especially for students who identify as LGBTQIA+. Alongside the pressures to be successful academically, there are numerous personal challenges to navigate in terms of sex and sexuality, relationships, identity, social communities, and drug and alcohol use. In my work with queer college students, we take the time to understand the unique challenges of this time for you in particular, and I work to cultivate your abilities to meet these challenges with resourcefulness and creativity. We also work to bring you into greater awareness of the unconscious features of your mind, in order to know yourself better and to resolve deep-rooted conflicts.

I am a compassionate, thoughtful, experienced psychologist, and I am very interested in getting to know you and your struggles. I work with individuals and couples, from late adolescence to older adulthood. My work is collaborative and starts by creating a non-judgmental space in which you can feel comfortable sharing your symptoms and exploring your past, present and future. We will work together to help you understand and negotiate the external and internal obstacles preventing you from achieving greater contentment in your life. I use evidence-based approaches, such as CBT, DBT, and ACT, to help clients reduce anxiety and depression, better cope with stress, and improve their self-esteem and relationships. I also utilize attachment and psychodynamic theories to help clients construct a meaningful narrative of their history, help identify harmful patterns in thinking, behavior and relationships, and help clients liberate from them. I specialize in both short-term and long-term psychotherapy aimed at increasing self-awareness and identifying patterns that contribute to mood symptoms and difficulties at work or in relationships. I look forward to speaking with you about the challenges you are currently facing so that we can establish a plan to help you overcome them and lead a more satisfying and fulfilling life. I look forward to learning about you and partnering with you through psychotherapy to help you reduce stress and find greater satisfaction with your life.
