Therapists for college students near New York University
I am a licensed clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with over 20 years of clinical experience. My approach to therapy is collaborative, and geared toward reaching a better understanding of the relationship between your emotions, behaviors, and experiences. I see the therapeutic relationship as the foundation for exploration and growth through fostering a safe space, where you're able to freely express your thoughts and feelings. This process allows for a deeper understanding of the dynamics that may be influencing your current difficulties. In addition to my other clinical expertise, I am also trained in psychosomatic psychoanalysis, and have experience working with individuals who present with physical symptoms and illnesses. I address the complex interplay between psychological and somatic factors, and provide a comprehensive approach that considers the unique needs of my patients. If you're seeking a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic experience that can help you gain insight and navigate personal challenges, I'm here to support you. My consulting room is welcoming to anyone who wants to come for therapy, irrespective of their sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, culture or gender.
There are 6 therapists including myself in the practice. We are all different in our approaches and areas of expertise. Our fees are flexible, as are our hours. We are offering in-person sessions. All of us have worked with students since the start of our careers. In fact women roughly ages 18-25 is our favorite population to work with. We believe the fit between client and therapist is the most important aspect of therapy. You feeling listened to, not judged and that we are focused on helping you is our goal.
With over 20 years of experience in clinical care, education, and research, I provide thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatry support tailored to high performing adults seeking clarity, stability, and wellness. Life is full of constant change that we are learning how to navigate every day. Often, adjusting to these changes can bring up a range of emotions including anxiety, depression, and self-doubt. I wholeheartedly believe that everyone has the potential and ability to adapt to these ever-changing challenges in constructive ways that allow them to expand their lives. Our therapeutic relationship would be a source of kindness, calmness, and empowerment in your life. My hope is that therapy can be a safe space for you to share and clarify your values and motivations. By exploring your current habits and patterns, we can bring awareness to what is working well for you and transform the less effective methods into constructive actions that help bring you closer to feeling your best. I understand that reaching out for therapy can feel a little intimidating, especially if it’s your first time. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you might have or to schedule a free consultation before starting therapy together. TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. I am a licensed psychologist specializing in anxiety and depression relating to areas such as relationships, multicultural (ie. race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality) identity, adolescent/young adult identity development, and adjusting to academic and career-related stress. I have a background working with both traditional and non-traditional college students within multiple capacities including as an academic advisor, first-generation student counselor, mentor, and adjunct professor. Outside of private practice, I work at Jacobi Medical Center Hospital providing trauma-focused treatment to individuals struggling with chronic medical conditions. Additionally, I am an CUNY adjunct assistant professor within both graduate school counseling/counselor education and undergraduate psychology departments.
I work collaboratively with students who face a variety of challenges, including life transitions, relationship issues, and navigating queer identities. College and graduate school typically occur at pivotal developmental points for people in terms of figuring out who they are, what they want, and separating/individuating from parental figures. Together, we will work to understand your inner life, what works and what doesn't in terms of your thinking, behavior and ways of relating to others. Often, patterns develop that help us stay safe and secure when we're young, but would benefit from re-examination and modification to live a more fulfilling adult life. I have a sub-specialty working with people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a highly distressing fixation on a perceived appearance defect that can impact daily functioning and quality of life. I help you understand where the appearance fixation originated, including negative self appraisals and rituals/compulsions that accompany BDD. Learning to face feared and avoided situations is a gradual process that takes place over time, freeing you from the hold of BDD and leading to improved functioning and a more satisfying life.
I take a person-centered approach to therapy. You, the client, are totally in charge of where this journey takes us. I believe that the core of successful therapy is in the bond between client and therapist. As such, I always meet my clients where they are at and work to build a strong relationship through genuine and honest conversations. I am skilled in CBT/DBT, and I hold a certification in Clinical Trauma Treatment (CCTP). Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with adolescents and young adults to build introspection, curiosity, and compassion in order to address their concerns with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Listen, life can get really messy, so let's dig in together. Because you are worthy of growth and change and happiness.

College can be both exciting and overwhelming, a time of exploration, pressure, and major life transitions. I work with students who are learning how to balance it all: academics, relationships, identity, and the uncertainty of what comes next. Whether you’re feeling anxious, stuck, homesick, or unsure about your path, therapy can be a space to slow down, get curious, and reconnect with yourself. I’m currently pursuing my M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness at NYU and earned my B.S. from Emerson College. My approach is person-centered and collaborative, guided by your unique strengths, values, and goals. I often draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps us move through self-doubt, perfectionism, or comparison, and focus on what really matters to you. I especially enjoy working with women, those navigating relationship challenges, stress, or women’s health concerns. My goal is to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can learn to manage difficult emotions, build resilience, and feel more grounded in who you are, both on campus and beyond. Sessions are available in person or virtually. Feel free to reach out by email or phone with any questions or to schedule a free consultation. I have flexible availability.
