I work with my clients on exploring underlying patterns, unresolved conflicts, and deep-seated emotional concerns that have been causing distress in their relationships with themselves and others. With authenticity and compassion, I work collaboratively with my clients through relationship and attachment issues, depression, anxiety, self-doubt, shame, loneliness, and childhood trauma, toward greater clarity and fulfillment. I foster a thoughtful space for navigating life transitions, complex family dynamics, questions of identity and purpose, as well as overall feelings of being stuck or lost. I understand that trust takes time and care to develop. Together, we’ll cultivate a relationship in which you can come to feel safe and free to express what’s troubling you. I’ll help you make better sense of what you’ve been struggling with and why, and support you in tuning into and working toward what well-being might look and feel like for you. Talking together with honesty and curiosity can deepen your understanding of yourself and your experiences and build resilience, which both support authentic, lasting growth. As this process unfolds, it can help you make changes that foster a more integrated sense of self, greater connection in relationships, and a stronger sense of meaning in life. Education and Experience: - The Stephen Mitchell Relational Study Center: Program in Relational Studies - Chicago Center for Psychoanalysis: Fellow - Depth Counseling: Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy - University of Chicago: AM, Clinical Social Work, psychodynamic concentration - Columbia University: BA, Psychology and English (cum laude)

I specialize in working with people who are experiencing life transitions, such as marriage, divorce, parenting, career, loss of a loved one, aging, and existential anxiety. Transitions can be stressful because it means you need to make changes in how you are living your life. I work with people who are at a crossroads of important decisions or who are having difficulties navigating and adjusting to a change in life circumstances. Going in a direction you have not gone before can bring up feelings of fear, doubt, and uncertainty. If you are trying to figure out what you want from your life, I will provide a safe and nonjudgmental place where we can explore your emotions, challenges, choices and possible consequences, and best approaches to move forward. Going through the process of taking stock of your life can often lead you to a new beginning which opens up new possibilities. With every life transition, we need to let go of a past way of thinking or being and replace it with something new. Together we can create a path towards change and healing.

Starting therapy can be a challenging step, especially when seeking a therapist who genuinely understands your unique experiences and challenges. Recognizing this, I am deeply committed to empathizing with my clients and understanding their backgrounds to provide the most effective support. My name is Rhea and I am a therapist in-training at Sol Health. I am a second-year Mental Health Counseling student at Fordham University, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Newcastle University, U.K. My journey into counseling has been profoundly shaped by my experiences as a South-Asian immigrant, inspiring my passion towards understanding each client’s identity and how it affects their mental health.  Dealing with mental health concerns can feel isolating and overwhelming. That's why I prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be your authentic self and feel truly heard. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of my practice. I strive to be your ally, empowering you to explore your thoughts and emotions freely, without the burden of putting on a facade. My approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based techniques, while also incorporating spirituality into your healing journey when appropriate. Utilizing an intersectional framework, I address the diverse identities and experiences that shape your mental health. I believe therapy is a collaborative process, where your autonomy is respected, and you actively participate in your path to healing. Together, we will uncover insights and develop strategies tailored to your unique needs and goals. My focus areas include, but are not limited to, addressing issues related to racism, college adjustment, transitional challenges, and the experiences of international students. I also support clients dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ concerns, and relationship and family issues. I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective care, particularly for individuals from marginalized communities, helping you overcome challenges and achieve personal growth. You don't have to face your struggles alone—I'm here to support you every step of the way. Rhea Thakur is a therapist in-training at Sol Health. TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. I believe that each of our stories are equally sacred as they are unique and see therapy as an opportunity to cultivate curiosity for ourselves, let go of self-judgement, and create meaningful change. I utilize an embodied approach rooted in Gestalt Therapy and don't shy away from bringing humor, play and creativity to the therapeutic process. Though my experience ranges across many areas, I gravitate towards helping clients work through Inner Child Healing, codependency, perfectionism, relational trauma, multicultural identity and relationship issues. I also work with couples seeking to deepen intimacy, trust and communication.

Art Therapist
Bayport, NY

I am a New York State Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, New Mexico State Licensed Professional Art Therapist, and Nationally Board Certified Art Therapist, who offers talk therapy and art psychotherapy for adults seeking insight, personal growth and change--particularly after major life transition, grief, loss or trauma. These experiences may pertain to starting school, academic stressors, medical illness, injury, disability, relationships, loss of loved ones, job loss or instability, relocation, and certainly much more. In our sessions together we can explore issues that come up around the extreme shifts in how you know how to be in the world, your self expectations and sense of identity, feelings of confusion, and accompanying feelings of distress. We will gently address your stressors and any feelings of misunderstanding, alienation or isolation in order to ultimately foster integration, personal advocacy, individuation, and renewed inspiration for your next path forward. I will encourage you to access creative imagination through a holistic, psychodynamic, relational, transpersonal, social action, and anti-oppressive lens. This means that we will engage in deep processing discussion--alongside art, creative expression, guided visualization, mindfulness and some somatic therapy, including the option of Reiki--to help us learn more about your needs, barriers, and goals in the present and how to pivot with insight from the past. We will particularly look at the intersection of your individual mindset, conscious awareness, unconscious impulses, and psyche with the events and lived experiences you have been met with in the groups you have belonged to and the communities around you. We will also consider how each of us impacts those individuals and communities around us, and acknowledge how as we make positive change, those reverberations can aid our community in greater compassion, growth, and improvement for many others in big and small ways. You deserve to recognize, explore, nurture, and be reminded of your natural strength, resiliency, and capacity for insight, growth, and joy! While therapy may challenge you to make sense in new ways of past and current conflict, crisis, or loss, our work together will seek access to a state of calm within, and the wisdom which may be created from each and any situation: all with motivation, inspiration, acceptance, choice, and hope. Together--let's make change, and find comfort during change.

We offer affirming psychotherapy and sex therapy for individuals, couples, multiple-partner relationships, and poly and leather families. We are experts in alternative sexualities, specializing in working with adults in the kink/BDSM, polyamorous/non-monogamous, trans/gender-nonconforming/non-binary, LGBQIA+, and sex work communities. We work with those who live openly and out; and those who have more conservative and private lifestyles. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including holistic, person-centered, collaborative, empowerment-focused, trauma-informed, IFS, DBT, and EMDR. We welcome people of every ability, age, gender, national origin, race/ethnicity, religious affiliation, and sexual orientation, and we cultivate space for conversations that de/reconstruct whiteness, and cultivate positive racial and intersectional identities. People seek therapy for many reasons, including: a deeper understanding of identity or sexuality; difficulty adjusting to relationship difficulties or traumatic experiences; anxiety and/or depression; sexual functioning issues; compulsive thoughts or behavior; and/or changes in relationship structure or power dynamic. Most people decide to work with my practice because of my specialized training and experience, or because they feel more comfortable speaking to a therapist with first-hand knowledge of alternative identities and lifestyles.
