Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I tend to work best with college students and young adults who look “high-functioning” on the outside but feel overwhelmed on the inside. Many of the students I see are smart, reflective, and trying hard — yet struggling with anxiety, mood swings, burnout, panic, or a constant feeling of pressure to perform or hold everything together. You might feel stuck between who you were expected to be and who you’re becoming. You may overthink conversations, feel emotionally exhausted, struggle with motivation, or feel disconnected from yourself or others. Some students I work with have experienced past stress or trauma that still shows up in their body — through anxiety, sleep issues, emotional shutdown, or feeling on edge — even if “nothing bad” seems to be happening now. In therapy, we move at your pace. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear goal right away. My approach is supportive, curious, and collaborative — focused on helping you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and develop tools that actually feel usable in real life. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, feel less alone, and build steadiness during a demanding and uncertain chapter of life. I will be getting credentialed with additional insurances and accepting private pay-please feel free to check back or reach out if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Hello! I am a New York State licensed Psychotherapist with over 21 years of experience. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to identify and reshape negative thoughts and unproductive behaviors or issues in a client's daily life. Many of my clients find it helpful to set goals together and break problems into small, manageable steps. I work in collaboration with my clients to achieve short-term and long-term goals. I particularly enjoy working with college and graduate students in times of transition. I am warm, genuine, positive, and engaged. In session, I will build rapport with you, make sure I’m hearing what you’re communicating, and establish a therapeutic alliance. I’ll listen to your thoughts and feelings and reflect back what I notice to highlight opportunities for growth and facilitate behavioral change. During our first session, I'll ask about your symptoms and what brought you to therapy. We may cover your history, education, relationships, career, and current living situation, and agree on your goals and objectives. If you want to make positive changes and think we might be a good fit, please reach out! I am part of the Path referral network, which means that when you reach out, my team will get back to you quickly to schedule our first session. I am also committed to making therapy affordable! Through Path, I am in-network for most commercial insurances, so you're only responsible for your co-pay.
My goal as a therapist is to create a supportive environment for folks to explore their gender and sexuality. Perhaps you identify as queer, bi, lesbian, gay, pan, ace, trans, nonbinary, agender, poly, kinky, something else, all of the above, or nothing at all. You deserve to have a space where you can learn more about the different parts of yourself without judgment or pressure. As a queer person who has sought out therapy myself, I know how challenging it can be to find an affirming therapist. Even if your identity isn’t central to your therapy goals, I will always aim to honor and validate every part of your identity in our work. My therapeutic style is collaborative and anti-oppressive. My approach is integrative, using tools from a variety of therapeutic modalities—relational, CBT, narrative, sex therapy—that are best suited to each unique client. In addition to specializing in identity, I support clients experiencing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and relationship issues. My aim is to co-create a space with you that facilitates growth, emotional awareness, and authentic self-expression. Please reach out if you have any questions about my work or about therapy more generally. I'm glad that you're exploring getting the care you need right now, and I hope that we have the opportunity to connect more soon.
I love working with clients that are struggling with dating, relationships, or family conflict. I’m trained a few different modalities but all of them are direct and I give feedback. Our sessions will not feel like you are just talking at me. We will actively work together to figure out what issues are impeding your happiness and tools to change them.
About Me: Hello, I'm Nhi, a dedicated first-generation social work intern in my second year at Columbia University's School of Social Work. I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Grinnell College and bring a deeply personal understanding of mental health challenges shaped by my own experiences as an Asian American in foster care. My journey has been profoundly influenced by the intersection of intergenerational trauma, immigration, and systemic inequalities, providing me with a unique perspective on the complexities of healing and resilience. My Approach: I believe that trauma and mental health struggles do not exist in a vacuum—they are often reflections of broader societal issues. Growing up in a family affected by intergenerational trauma, poverty, and systemic discrimination, I understand firsthand the cascading effects these forces can have on a person's mental and emotional well-being, even into adulthood. This insight drives my therapeutic approach, where I aim to provide a compassionate, culturally sensitive space for clients to explore their experiences and find healing. I bring extensive experience working with diverse populations and complex trauma. During my time as a case manager at a domestic violence shelter, I supported individuals and families from all walks of life, many of whom were dealing with overlapping traumas, including domestic violence, mental health struggles, homelessness, childhood trauma, and identity-based discrimination. This experience reinforced my belief that trauma and mental health challenges are often intertwined with larger societal issues. Mental health challenges can significantly impact daily functioning, even long after the precipitating events have occurred. In some cases, there may be no clear cause, yet the impact is still profound. Regardless of the situation, everyone deserves support in their healing journey. In my practice, I adopt a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring my methods to meet each individual's unique needs and strengths. I utilize a range of therapeutic techniques, including trauma-informed therapy, person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). I believe every person has the inherent capacity to navigate their challenges, and my role is to support, empower, and provide tools for their journey toward healing. What to Expect: In our work together, you can expect a supportive, non-judgmental environment where your experiences are honored, and your voice is central to the healing process. I am committed to understanding your story in its full context, recognizing the multiple layers of identity and experience that shape who you are. Whether you're dealing with personal trauma, managing day-to-day stressors, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, I'm here to walk alongside you, providing the guidance and support you need. I am a pre-licensed therapist intern at Sol Health working under the supervision of Susan Chung, LCSW, MPH. I want to help you improve your life, whatever that might look like for you. My name is Eleanor, and I am a master’s student in the Mental Health Counseling program at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University. I also have a BA in Classical Studies and a minor in Hispanic Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. In session, we will explore your present experiences, reflect on your past, and keep an eye on building the future you desire. Together, we can examine how trauma and childhood experiences influence your behaviors today. If applicable, we will also explore your relationships and attachment style. Finally, we will map out the many parts that make up the whole you. My goal? To help you gain insight into yourself, truly feel and regulate your emotions, and overall enhance the quality of your life. The approach to your therapy will be individualized and will depend on your specific goals – you decide what you want to put in your therapeutic toolbox. My therapeutic style is primarily rooted in the psychodynamic and IFS (internal family systems) modalities, though I also utilize aspects of the CBT, ACT, ERP, DBT, and Gestalt theories. We will work together to explore which approach feels best for you! My overarching career goal is to provide profound solace for college-age students and young adults. My focuses within therapeutic work are: anxiety, depression, OCD, relationships and dating, families, attachment, sexual exploration, substance use, and personality disorders. Ultimately, I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where you feel supported in your journey of self-discovery and growth. Eleanor Wynn is a therapist-in-training at Sol Health. You may want something different from your life, but you’re not sure what it is or how to go about getting it. You could have questions about relationships, career, or identity. Or perhaps you have been finding yourself overtaken by strong emotions at unexpected times. You need a space to talk, think, feel, and explore your world - both the parts that are acknowledged and also the parts that feel mysterious or shrouded. I see psychotherapy as a process of discovery. Through this process, you will have the opportunity to learn about yourself, including the parts of you that are hard to reach or difficult to know. I believe that a person cannot be fully defined in terms of a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. We are complex beings with unique temperaments and lived experiences, and we exist in a world of complex and sometimes oppressive systems. I see you first and foremost as an individual and acknowledge the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek out therapy. I practice psychodynamic therapy through an anti-racist, LGBTQIA+ affirming lens. This work can allow you to have greater self-knowledge; to grow, and to consider and perhaps to make different decisions in your life. My approach is to bring curiosity, empathy, and insight to your current situation and to go from there.
The college students I work best with are thoughtful, curious, and trying hard, even if it doesn’t always feel that way. Many are dealing with anxiety, perfectionism, or OCD and feel overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed, figure things out quickly, or keep it all together. Some struggle with focus, motivation, or routines, even though they care deeply about their goals. A lot of my clients tell me they feel stuck in their heads, constantly overthinking, procrastinating, or second-guessing themselves. They’re tired of feeling like they’re falling behind and want someone who truly understands and can offer tools that actually help. In our work, we make space for what’s difficult while building real strategies to help you feel more grounded, capable, and clear about what you want.
Sometimes we may feel that we're supposed to have all the answers to the challenges life throws our way, even when that isn’t always possible. An achievement focus can come at the expense of other areas of our lives. I see therapy as a collaborative experience. I work both on-on-one and with couples to help unlock what holds them back to gain an understanding of how our histories shape our present, while building a foundation of skills in the here-in-now to promote healing and a future that is self-defined. My approach is solution-focused and uses elements of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy to identify and build on your strengths. As a Substance Abuse Specialist, I also help individuals transform their relationships with substances and behaviors that feel out of control. Therapy should be a process that makes us feel free to be fully ourselves. To heal and enliven us to be authentically, beautifully, and powerfully exactly who we are, unbound by what has in the past, held us back. Let's work together to find strength, meaning, healing, and freedom so you can define your own path. It's time to be free and come alive again, let's do it together. Contact me today for a free, 30 minute video or phone consultation to see if we are a good fit to work together.
