Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Hi there, I'm Alexa, and I'm glad you're here! Whether you're navigating anxiety, relationship challenges, or exploring your identity as an adolescent or young adult in the LGBTQIA+ community, I'm here to walk alongside you. My experience in settings like a college crisis center, emergency foster care, and psychiatric residential centers has shaped my approach — compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. In our work together, we'll focus on helping you feel more grounded, connected, and empowered as you move toward the life you want. I believe therapy should feel personal to you-it is your treatment, after all! That's why I take a person-centered approach, meeting you with warmth, curiosity, and without judgment. I draw from psychodynamic theories, along with tools from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Expressive Arts to support your growth. I believe our healing is tied to environmental, political, social, and economic factors- and feel it is my responsibility as a therapist to hold each client within the larger context of their lived experiences. We all have a unique capacity for growth and healing, and I am eager to support you on your journey!
Anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma are some of the most challenging issues to live with. In my work with individuals, families, and couples I've had the opportunity to help guide my clients through these struggles and begin experiencing more fulfilling lives. I also have experience working with clients on body-image-related issues and deconstructing the standard idea of beauty. If these issues are relatable to you, please know you are not alone. It is extremely courageous to take this first step to seek help and guidance. As a marriage and family therapist, I believe that relational work can be an incredible way to embark on a healing journey. No one lives on this earth alone, nor should we feel as though we do. Strengthening or rebuilding our relationships, even the one we have with ourselves, can positively impact our lives in incredible ways.
On the surface, you look like you have it all together— checking off your to-do list, being the strong one for others, pushing through each day—but inside, you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, and like you’ve lost sight of your purpose and passions. You find yourself leaving more and more of yourself on the back-burner just to get through all that’s expected of you. But where is the space for you? Our sessions will put you first and allow for all of you to be seen, validated, and heard. I specialize in working with adults and young adults navigating burnout, anxiety, overwhelm, relationship struggles, depression, body image & self-esteem issues, life transitions, trauma, and disordered eating. My expertise includes talk therapy, somatic-based psychotherapy, EMDR, movement therapy, & CBT in a trauma-responsive and culturally-affirming space. Together we will learn to recognize the signals your body sends when your boundaries are being crossed, when burnout is approaching, and when its time to reclaim your energy and purpose. Discover all the ways your body is guiding you back to safety and wholeness. Click the website button to schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation!

Starting therapy can feel hard and overwhelming. As a licensed social worker, I create a warm, engaging, and comforting environment where we will work together to reduce your stress and help you cope with life's challenges. Within our work together, I will draw on my experience with cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, relational therapy, and trauma informed care to tailor the treatment to your needs. I specialize in working with individuals experiencing a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, transitions, and relationship issues. I am especially passionate about treating college students and young adults who are often facing many difficult transitions. While transitions can be very stressful, I have found that they can also be an opportunity for change and the beginnings of a new identity. I am an inclusive therapist who works to create a space that is accepting and nonjudgmental. My belief is that we all have the strength to overcome and grow through life’s challenges. I am passionate about de-stigmatizing mental health and building strong relationships with clients in order to meet their goals and develop lifelong skills. I view therapy as a partnership and look forward to working alongside you.
Is life feeling out of control? Are you struggling with significant life changes, relationship issues, grief, immigration and acculturation challenges, or in need of trauma processing? Maybe it’s time to talk with someone. You don’t have to face these challenges alone—I'm here to help and make it easier for you. As a first-generation Chinese American immigrant, I understand many of these struggles on a personal level, and so many of my clients find that connection valuable to open up to me. I am confident that with my experience and personalized approach, I can guide you toward a positive direction in life. My clients often express that they feel heard and safe during our sessions with my naturally warm and empathetic demeanor, but also challenge them at a capacity for growth. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my pug, watching dramas, reading books, and staying in quiet places—all of which help me stay grounded and balanced. What do you do to feel grounded? It’s completely normal to feel uncertain about starting therapy, especially if it’s new to you or you don’t know me yet. I encourage you to book a consultation with me. I’d love to address your hesitations and support you on your journey toward a better life. I’m here for you, but I need you to take that first step so we can navigate this path together.
I am the best fit for those with a history of interpersonal trauma, relationship or family challenges, adjustment issues, and/or anxiety. Many individuals that I see are feelings stuck in a relationship--with themselves, a parent, a sibling, a partner, a colleague, or a friend. I support clients to gain more awareness around the ways that their histories, thoughts, and feelings inform their relationship patterns and then support them with tools to adjust those patterns were needed. I also believe that healing happens through reparative relationships--between therapist and client, with our loved ones, and with ourselves. As such, I seek to relate to my clients in a transparent, deeply human, and sometimes humorous way. In this way, I hope to act as a template to empower them to practice relating to others and themselves differently so that their needs can be honored and met.

TriBeCa Therapy is a center for psychotherapy that was founded on the assumption that human beings are original, imaginative, inspired, and inventive. We particularly love our work with young adults and college students and are connected to issues they deal with. Issues related to sex and dating, drugs and drinking, depression and anxiety and academic pressures aren’t topics that will freak us out. We can handle it. College students frequently discuss with us challenges such as: making friends in ways that don’t involve alcohol, making friends as a person of color, navigating social situations that demand connecting with strangers (like in the cafeteria) and finding “their people.” We work to create a partnership that takes these challenges on together, trying new strategies, taking increasingly bigger risks and dealing with the disappointments and celebrating the successes that follow. College is a time when many young adults are dealing with very adults issues like sex, sexual assault, eating disorders, substance abuse, managing money, race, class, and career choices. Creating a space where young adults feel comfortable talking about these issues is a strength of our therapists and a non-judgmental stance is key. The object isn’t to insist on a particular set of values or practices, but to support young people to understand what they are dealing with and to make active choices about who they want to be. As a Creative Arts Psychotherapist and Drama Therapist, I interweave creative expressive techniques along with traditional talk therapy to support you in releasing old patterns and habits, identify places you feel stuck, and move towards a place of self acceptance, healing, and growth. My role as therapist includes being a guide and support on your unique journey, utilizing both creative expression and talk therapy depending on your needs and level of comfort. I believe that real change happens when we connect mind and body, allowing us to explore places that hold us back, and reconnect with ourselves to live a more full and joyful life. I work primarily with adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, self esteem issues, and learning differences.
